Last night was the Christmas concert at Bear's school. Each grade performed a song and danced, dressed in full school uniform with Santa hat and scarf added for accent. The performances ranged from preschoolers wandering around the stage barely remembering what they were there for to a chorus of middle school girls who could really belt out the songs. Bear's second grade sang "It Must Be Santa" and the choreographed dance was well done. In my humble opinion, they stole the show!
Bear's second semester of school is coming to a close. We are proud of his accomplishments! He has made many friends, come to understand and speak Spanish and showed great responsibility in preparing for school daily. Overall the experience was a great success! We learned much about the Mexican culture from our dealings with the school as well. For example, time is a really a fluid concept (the concert started 50 minutes late); little discipline at home makes for a hectic classroom; foreign parents need to "relax" and "not expect so much" of the school or their children. Knowing Bear would only be attending for one semester, none of this bothered us but added humor to our lives!
Boats with kids have been arriving in droves this past week! Those boats who came down on the Baha Ha Ha (an organized flotilla that leaves from California in early November) have been making their way to PV. Last weekend in La Cruz, we reunited with good friends from the S/V Totem, along with new friends from Capaz. A dock party ensued and there were nine kids between 5-11 years old. Then back in Paradise Village marina a couple days later, another potluck for cruising families produced new and old friends: over a dozen kids ranging from 8 months to 18! The teenagers were in heaven! Having cruising kids around will definitely help Bear's transition from school in a building to school back on the boat.
